Happy Halloween & Late Pumpkin Carving

Okay, I'm totally late posting anything Halloween related (hanging head in shame). I think it's because my kids are getting older and I have one left that wants to go trick-o-treating. Anyway, my youngest daughter has been dying to carve the two pumpkins that have been sitting on our dining table. Me, I was secretly hoping that we could save them for Thanksgiving decorations. Oh well.

We carved our pumpkins using the basic pumpkin scoop and serrated knife kit you find in any store. Nothing fancy. However, I did discover something new to me. I just so happened to use a Crayola dry erase marker to freehand the design onto the pumpkin. When I was done, I took a damp towel and wiped off any lines that were still showing. The great thing about using a dry erase marker is that if you make a mistake, you can wipe it off and continue on. You don't have to worry about permanently marking or ruining your pumpkin.

This was inspired by an image on Pinterest. I love the idea of a larger pumpkin eating a smaller one.

For blood, I used red food color on the inside mouth of the small pumpkin. Then, I scooped some of the seeds towards the opening to look like the guts were coming out.

My ten year old made this one. She calls it her skeleton pumpkin.

Before I go, here are some painful puns that were in my son's school newspaper. Laugh at your own risk.

What do skeletons say before they begin dining?
Bone Appetite

Why are there fences around cemeteries?
Because people are dying to get in.

What do ghosts serve for dessert?
Ice Scream

Have a safe and happy Halloween.
